Morning Glory is glorious! Tons of laughs, good story, and brilliant acting – what more could you want?
Rachel McAdams shines as Becky, a young but eager television producer who is chasing her dream of one day working for the number one morning show; “The Today Show”. She gets a big opportunity in a senior position at the struggling “Day Break”; however it may be more difficult to boost the ratings than she thought.
Diane Keaton is Colleen Peck, the long-running host of “Day Break” and Harrison Ford is Mike Pomeroy, a seasoned journalist and anchor who grudgingly joins the show as co-anchor. Ford gives a stellar performance proving his best work may still be ahead, and the chemistry between Ford, Keaton, and McAdams is genius. The supporting cast, especially Matt Malloy as the weatherman Ernie Appleby, contribute a lot to the movie with enjoyable subtleties in their performance as well as several big laughs.
Another interesting aspect of this movie is that it provides a commentary on the substance of the information provided in the media and the balance between news and entertainment; an issue that may be more relevant now than ever.
There is no doubt, however, that this movie is pure entertainment. Go see it – 3.5 stars out of 5!
